In order to give parents and teachers control over the emails they receive, I added four new tables to the database:
General Email Types
General Email Types / Translations
User / General Email Preferences
User / Student / Email Preferences
The General Email Types table lists the user's own events that could trigger an email (if the user chose): logging in, logging out, or subscription expiring. If anyone would like an email for another event, I could add that to this table and insert the appropriate code where needed.
The translations table links the languages table with translations of the email types (logging in, logging out) into whatever languages the program will eventually be translated. The email-types table will be in English, but the types in English will also be listed in the translation table. For the list the users sees, the code will get the words from the translation table so that when I add other languages I won't have to rewrite the code. The program will get the appropriate entries from the translation table for the user's language ID.
The User / General Email Preferences table will link the user ID with one of the email types and show whether or not the user wants to receive an email for that event. The program will query records containing the user's ID, and the IDs of any of that user's students. If the user ID is for a student, then that will tell the program whether the teacher wants to receive an email for that event for that specific student, such as when the student logs in or out.
The User / Student / Email Preferences table will link the user ID with the types of assignment that a student can do (which are listed in an existing table, and include classwork and homework), and with the ID for the individual student. I probably could have made the table with only the student's ID, but having the parent/teacher's ID will be helpful when I adapt the program so that a student could have more than one teacher, such as two parents. That way each parent could have different settings for the same child.
When I used the program with my daughters, I wrote it to send me emails for when I logged in (for security), for when each of my daughters logged in, and for each assignment that they completed. However, due to laws regarding unsolicited emails, all of the email notifications will be turned off by default, and the user will have to opt in to any emails they want to receive.
Eventually I want to add an in-app messaging function which would probably replace the need for sending emails, but I'll leave the email capability for anyone who prefers emails to in-app messages.
Dr. Drew interviewed Scott Adams recently, and Scott Adams mentioned the absurdity that Republicans went to overthrow the government on Jan 6, but they neglected to bring their guns. On the first or second anniversary of the event, that alleged oversight made the narrative appear absurd to me, so I made a "video" that was supposed to be audio from January 6, captured on a video camera from which the lens cap had not been removed. I'm posting it again just because.
While I was waiting on hold to talk with a human at the IRS, I decided to put some food out for the dogs. I set the full bag of dog food on a chair, and walked away to get the bowls. When I turned around I saw the bag slowly tipping over, spilling much of its contents onto the floor. Fortunately I had help cleaning it up.

If the main points of this theory are correct, it will be the largest paradigm shift in physics in several centuries. If history is any guide, I'm not likely to live long enough to see it become adopted, but participating with several AI in bringing the theory this far has been a great privilege.
